Labor: 1.0. To diagnose the P0500 Nissan code, it typically requires 1.0 hour of labor. The specific diagnosis time and labor rates at auto repair shops can differ based on factors such as the location, make and model of the vehicle, and even the engine type. It is common for most auto repair shops to charge between $75 and $150 per hour.
The P0500 code stands for “Vehicle speed sensor malfunction.”. Depending on your vehicle, you could also see something along the lines of “Vehicle Speed Sensor “A” Range/Performance.”. It means that the sensor reading does not match the engine rpm when the ECU compares the two. There are also four speed sensors on each wheel hub

Remove the short pin from the ABS check connector and jump Tc to E1. If a problem was detected in any of the wheel speed sensor circuits, you’ll find one or more of the following codes: 71 — Low voltage in right front WSS circuit. 72 — Low voltage in left front WSS circuit. 73 — Low voltage in right rear WSS circuit.
Check Engine code: P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor A few important things I learned: You can read check engine light codes on the Tribeca using the 06-09 Legacy/Outback method described here: 05, 06-09: How To Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) On Subaru's, the P0500 code does not refer to the Vehicle Speed Sensors located in the transmission.
C0040 has high repair importance and difficulty level. This means that an amateur DIYer may lack the ability to address the issue properly without the proper tools and information. Problems with the wheel speed sensor may not affect your brake function, but it can affect handling in wet, slick, or icy road conditions.
The TCM also relies on the output of the intermediate shaft speed sensor to adjust hydraulic pressures, shift points, and patterns. A problem with the intermediate shaft speed sensor can cause the powertrain control module (PCM) to log a P0792 code. Note: The definition of code P0792 might be different depending on the vehicle manufacturer

Insert the ABS wheel speed sensor into the wheel hub and screw the bolt. Tighten the ABS wheel speed sensor bolt to 10Nm. Note: The codes may still be stored in the DSC module but will change from Present to Stored status. Once you replace the ABS sensor, start the car and turning the steering wheel left and right.
Use a Scanner to Determine if the VSS is Reporting any Speed. Plug a good scanner into the OBD II port. You can configure it to report the vehicle’s speed as reported by the VSS. If it says 0 MPH while driving, the VSS has likely caused your Chevy Silverado’s speedometer to stop working. The video below shows exactly how to use a scanner to
Take your Beetle out and see if the cruise control still works. If it does, that’s a good indication that the vehicle speed sensor is fine. If cruise control isn’t working, the VSS is likely at fault. After testing the cruise control, you want to move on to the VSS and the wiring going to and from it. 4.
